Creating a Tailored 360-Degree Feedback and Coaching Process

Located in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center is a 743-bed, not-for-profit hospital that provides a wide range of health, social, and support services, with special advocacy for the poor and underserved.

St. Joseph’s is transitioning from a local community hospital to a research-based hospital with nationally recognized programs in selected fields of medicine. As a result, leading physicians from prestigious university hospitals have joined St. Joseph’s over the past few years to become program directors and academic chairs, with significant leadership responsibilities over departments, faculty, and resident physicians.

In order to meet the challenges associated with this change in strategic direction, new leadership skills were needed. DecisionWise developed a 360-degree feedback and coaching process tailored to St. Joseph’s program directors and academic chairs. These assessments were designed specifically to identify, measure, and emphasize those competencies necessary to provide the leadership which would to guide St. Joseph’s into its future direction. DecisionWise then developed follow-up assessments and provided one-one-one coaching to these hospital leaders. This program has had a significant positive impact with lead physicians and staff as they continue to improve in leadership and non-clinical skills.
